The sun shone brightly in the sky, its warmth reaching down on the forest. High above the fat clouds drifted across the clear blue sky and beyond them a large hawk coasted lazily in the warm soft breeze. The leaves of the trees rustled slightly, green and plentiful as newleaf began its course. Down below in a hidden forest, a small lake glowed in the sunlight, reflecting the beauty of the skies in its cool waters. It was the perfect day, life was thriving. Birds sang quietly in the trees and the rustling of squirrels digging for nuts around the roots of pines were music in the air.
And overhanging the lake a small cliff hung outwards, dipping over the water. A small white form stood out among the grayish brown rock. It was a cat, looking out at the lake, a small smile stretched across its muzzle.
It’s so peaceful. Moonscar thought, peace on her face as she closed her eyes and listened to the song of the forest. She felt the gentle heat of the sun touching her pelt, sending delightful waves of warmth throughout her whole body. She dug her claws into the ground, the dirt below warm and soft and sighed as the tepid wind sailed halfheartedly across the lake, ruffling her fur.
“Moonscar!” a gravelly voice rang out suddenly. Deciding not to answer the call the she- cat flicked her ears behind her, hearing the voice carried across the forest. She opened her eyes, sighing contentedly, taking in the beautiful scene. The lake was wonderful around this time of year, clear and peaceful. It was such an amazing place.
“Moonscar.” She heard the voice again this time, closer now. Again she closed her eyes took a deep breath and let it out as she felt a sudden form appear next to her. It was another cat. She opened her eyes but didn’t look at the other figure, instead she continued to look out at the lake.
“It’s amazing isn’t it?” she asked the cat. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the flashing of scars and tabby fur and immediately knew who it was. The tom sat down next to her, his tense shoulders relaxing slightly.
Tornheart looked out at the setting. “Yes,” he stated plainly, his harsh voice giving away no emotion.
“It’s nice to just come here and get away from it all you know?” she meowed softly.
“Moonscar…” Tornheart turned his head to her, and Moonscar could feel his amber eyes boring down on her.
She chuckled slightly. “Ok, come on.” With a small flick of her tail she turned away from the peaceful scene and padded away. Tornheart watched her go, a slightly exasperated look on his face, but it only took a second to mask it and sighing he went after the she-cat.
Moonscar smiled as she leapt down the ledge, pouncing from rock to rock and landed lightly on the cool forest floor. In front of her, a whole patrol was waiting patiently. Each cat was watching her closely and she grinned at every one of them.
Suddenly, Tornheart appeared leaping down the rocks and landed heavily by Moonscar’s side. Moonscar glanced at him quickly, then looked her patrol down. Cirrus, Firefall, Fataltalon, Noveheart, Silvercloud, Blackfire, Nightblaze, and Longlegs, her warriors. She padded forward and joined the group. “Okay guys lets go.” Her voice carried the authority of her rightful place as deputy now, and she took off into the trees, Tornheart falling into step beside her as the rest of the patrol followed loyally.
